Description

This high-performance platinum-cure liquid silicone compound is known for its superior physical properties and flexibility.

Dragon Skin™ 10 VERY FAST is used for creating skin effects, movie special effects, production molds, medical prosthetics, and cushioning applications.

Dragon Skin™ 10 VERY FAST is suitable for industrial applications with a service temperature range of -54°C to 232°C.

Features

  • Versatile Molding: Strong and tear-resistant molds for casting plaster, wax, concrete, resins, and other materials.
  • Special Effects Material: Used globally for skin and creature effects. Infinite color effects with Silc Pig™ pigments or Cast Magic™ powders. Cured rubber is skin-safe and certified by an independent laboratory.
  • Easy to Use: Mixes 1A:1B by weight or volume, can be thinned with Silicone Thinner™ or thickened with THI-VEX™. Cures at room temperature with negligible shrinkage.
  • Flame Rated: Meets UL-94 HB specification and B1 classification for GB 8624-2012 Fire Test to Building Material and Products.

Instructions

Safety

Use in a properly ventilated area. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves to minimize contamination risk. Use vinyl gloves only, as latex gloves will inhibit the cure of the rubber.

Storage

Store and use material at room temperature (23°C). Warmer temperatures will reduce working and cure time, and decrease the shelf life of unused material. Use products as soon as possible due to limited shelf life.

Cure Inhibition

Silicone rubber may be inhibited by contaminants such as latex, tin-cure silicone, sulfur clays, certain wood surfaces, and newly cast polyester, epoxy, or urethane rubber. Conduct a small-scale test if compatibility is a concern. Apply a clear acrylic lacquer to the model surface to prevent inhibition, allowing it to dry thoroughly before applying rubber.

Because no two applications are quite the same, a small test application to determine suitability for your project is recommended if performance of this material is in question.

Note: Even with a sealer, platinum silicones will not work with modeling clays containing heavy amounts of sulfur. Do a small scale test for compatibility before using on your project.

Applying A Release Agent

A release agent is not usually necessary but can make demolding easier. Use Ease Release™ 200 for making molds with silicone rubber. Lightly brush the release agent over all surfaces, follow with a light mist coating, and let dry for 30 minutes.

Measuring & Mixing

Pre-mix Part B thoroughly. Mix Parts A and B (1A:1B by volume or weight) for 60 seconds, scraping the sides and bottom of the container. Vacuum degassing is recommended to eliminate air bubbles, pulling a minimum of 29 inches of mercury. Leave room for material expansion and vacuum for 1 minute after material falls.

Pouring

Pour mixture in a single spot at the lowest point of the containment field, allowing the rubber to level off at least 1.3 cm (1/2 inch) over the highest point of the model surface.

Curing / Post Curing

Allow rubber to cure at room temperature (23°C) before demolding.

Do not cure below 18°C.

Optional post-curing at 80°C for 2 hours and 100°C for one hour can enhance properties. Cool mold to room temperature before use.

If Using As A Mold

Silicone rubber molds have natural release characteristics. No release agent is needed for wax or gypsum casting. Use Ease Release™ 200 for polyurethane, polyester, and epoxy resins to prevent mold degradation.

Thickening and Thinning

THI-VEX™ can thicken silicones for vertical applications. Silicone Thinner™ lowers viscosity but reduces tear and tensile strength. Do not exceed 10% by weight of total system.
