Description
This medium-density rigid polyurethane expanding foam is designed for applications requiring a strong, lightweight material with excellent dimensional stability and workability. With a density of approximately 128 kg/m³ (8 lb/ft³), it provides enhanced compressive strength and durability compared to lower-density foams, while being lighter than solid materials like wood or plaster. This makes it suitable for professional, industrial, and creative projects.
The foam system mixes at a 1A:1B ratio by volume, ensuring simple and repeatable processing. Once mixed, it has a pot life of about 45–60 seconds, requiring efficient mixing and pouring for fast production cycles. The foam expands to approximately 8 times its original liquid volume, offering controlled expansion with low pressure to preserve mold detail and dimensional accuracy.
Parts typically reach a demold time of about 30 minutes, supporting quick turnaround. Full cure is achieved within approximately 2 hours, after which the foam reaches its final rigid mechanical properties. The cured foam is cream to off-white and forms a rigid, closed-cell structure that resists moisture absorption and provides good thermal insulation. It can be cut, carved, drilled, sanded, shaped, or machined with standard tools and bonds well with common adhesives. It also readily accepts paints, coatings, epoxy or polyester resins, fiberglass laminates, and urethane surface skins for added durability and finish quality.
Thanks to its balanced density and strength-to-weight ratio, this foam is commonly used for scenic and theatrical set pieces, props, architectural details, prototype parts, tooling masters, flotation components, and reinforcement of hollow structures. It is an excellent option when a rigid foam stronger than low-density grades is required, but without the added weight of very high-density structural foams.
