These silicones are easy to use, mixed 1A:1B by volume, with low viscosities that often don't require vacuum degassing.
Use in a well-ventilated area. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves. Use vinyl gloves only, as latex gloves inhibit curing. Store and use at room temperature (23°C/73°F). Warmer temperatures reduce working and cure time. Use straight-sided containers and flat mixing sticks.
Contaminants like latex, tin-cure silicone, sulfur clays, and certain woods can inhibit curing. Test compatibility on a small area. Apply clear acrylic lacquer to prevent inhibition, but note that platinum silicones do not work with sulfur-heavy clays.
Because no two applications are quite the same, a small test application to determine suitability for your project is recommended if performance of this material is in question.
Note: Even with a sealer, platinum silicones will not work with modeling clays containing heavy amounts of sulfur. Do a small scale test for compatibility before using on your project.
A release agent can ease demolding. Use Ease Release™ 200, but do not apply to skin. Brush lightly over surfaces, mist, and let dry for 30 minutes. Do not use a release agent if planning to paint with Psycho Paint™.
Stir Parts A and B before dispensing. Mix 1A:1B by volume or weight for 3 minutes, scraping sides and bottom.
Pouring: Pour at the lowest point to minimize air entrapment. Ensure at least 1.3 cm (1/2") coverage over the model.
Mold Use: No release agent needed for wax or gypsum. Use Ease Release™ 200 for polyurethane, polyester, and epoxy resins.
Thickening: Use THI-VEX™ for vertical applications. Adjust viscosity by varying THI-VEX™ amount.
Curing/Post Curing: Cure at room temperature. Demold time can be reduced with mild heat or Plat-Cat™ accelerator. Extend pot life with Slo-Jo™ retarder. Post-cure at 80°C (176°F) for 2 hours and 100°C (212°F) for 1 hour for optimal properties.
Mold life depends on use. Clean with soap solution and dry before storage. Store assembled molds on a level surface in a cool, dry place.
