Description

This medium-density rigid polyurethane expanding foam is designed for applications requiring a balance of light weight and strength. With a density of about 80 kg/m³ (5 lb/ft³), it offers superior compressive strength and durability compared to lower-density foams, while remaining easy to shape and finish. This makes it suitable for scenic, industrial, marine, and prototyping applications.

Features

  • Mix ratio: 1A:1B by volume for simple and consistent processing
  • Pot life: approximately 45–60 seconds
  • Expands to about 10 times its original liquid volume
  • Demold time: around 20–30 minutes
  • Full cure: generally achieved within 1–2 hours
  • Cream to off-white color when cured
  • Closed-cell structure with low water absorption and good dimensional stability
  • Can be cut, carved, drilled, sanded, or machined using standard tools
  • Accepts paints, coatings, epoxy or polyester resins, fiberglass laminates, and urethane skins

Due to its moderate density, good strength-to-weight ratio, and fast processing, it is widely used for scenic and theatrical set pieces, props, architectural details, flotation components, mock-ups, tooling masters, and void filling. It is an excellent option when a rigid foam stronger than very-low-density grades is needed, without the added weight and cost of high-density structural foams.

Instructions

  • Mix at a 1A:1B ratio by volume until uniform. 
  • Pour within approximately 45–60 seconds of working time. 
  • The foam expands about 10 times, so allow space in the mold. 
  • Do not disturb during the rise. 
  • Demold after approximately 20–30 minutes. 
  • Full cure is achieved in about 1–2 hours.

Usage Tips

  • Use clean, dry molds and a release agent if needed.
  • Foam can be cut, carved, drilled, or sanded after curing.
  • Wear gloves, avoid moisture, and ensure good ventilation during use.
