Description

This sculpting medium is designed for precision shaping, smoothing, and carving, maintaining exceptional surface detail. It can be hand sculpted or tooled and applied to armatures of any size, from miniatures to large monuments. The warm gray color enhances visibility of profile lines and textures during sculpting.

Features

  • Resists deformation in warmer environments
  • Buttery smooth consistency when softened
  • Silicone friendly for moldmaking
  • Can be heated and cooled repeatedly without significant change
  • Will not dry or crack

Physical Properties

  • Density: 1.55 g/cm³ (96.7 lbs./cu. ft.)
  • Softening Temperature: 63°C
  • Troweling Temperature: 77°C
  • Brushing Temperature: 85°C

Ultra-fine detailing is most effective with room temperature clay (23°C). It spreads easily on different surfaces, including carved EPS foam and mixed material armatures.

Instructions

To process, heat the clay to its specific softening point (57°C–63°C) or to 77°C for troweling. At 85°C, it becomes brushable for coating armatures; do not exceed 85°C.

Smoothing

  • Use 99% Isopropyl Alcohol for mild effects
  • Use Naphtha/Mineral Spirits for aggressive dissolving and creating slips

Safety

  • Use aggressive solvents only in ventilated areas
  • Avoid Isopropyl Myristate unless permanent softening is desired
  • If using citrus solvents, clean thoroughly before molding to prevent silicone inhibition
  • Protect from UV and store in airtight wrap to prevent oxidation

Note: The clay cannot be heated to a pourable liquid state. Warmed clay can be brushed into silicone molds to create castings.

Heating Instructions

  • Use a warming oven dedicated for clay only
  • Microwaves are NOT recommended due to uneven heating and potential burning
