Description

This high-performance platinum cure liquid silicone compound is used for creating skin effects, movie special effects, production molds, medical prosthetics, and cushioning applications. It is known for its superior physical properties and flexibility, with a service temperature range of -54°C to 232°C.

Features

  • Versatile Special Effects Material: Soft, super-strong, and stretchy, used globally for skin and creature effects. Infinite color effects can be achieved with Silc Pig™ pigments or Cast Magic™ powders. Cured rubber is skin safe and certified.
  • Easy To Use: Mixed 1A:1B by weight or volume. Can be thinned with Silicone Thinner™ or thickened with THI-VEX™. Cures at room temperature with negligible shrinkage. Vacuum degassing recommended.
  • Flame Rated: Meets UL-94 HB specification and B1 classification for GB 8624-2012 Fire Test (excluding ‘NV’ formulas).

Instructions

Safety

Use in a properly ventilated area. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves. Use vinyl gloves only, as latex gloves will inhibit the cure.

Storage

Store and use at room temperature (23°C/73°F). Warmer temperatures reduce working and cure time and shelf life.

Cure Inhibition

Contaminants like latex, tin-cure silicone, sulfur clays, and certain surfaces may inhibit curing. Test compatibility on a small area. Use clear acrylic lacquer as a sealer if needed.

Because no two applications are quite the same, a small test application to determine suitability for your project is recommended if performance of this material is in question.

Note: Even with a sealer, platinum silicones will not work with modeling clays containing heavy amounts of sulfur. Do a small scale test for compatibility before using on your project.

Applying A Release Agent

Not usually necessary, but Ease Release™ 200 can be used. Brush lightly and let dry for 30 minutes.

Measuring and Mixing

Pre-mix Part B. Mix Parts A and B (1A:1B) for 3 minutes, scraping sides and bottom. Vacuum degassing recommended.

Curing / Post Curing

Cure at room temperature. Optional post-curing at 80°C (176°F) for 2 hours and 100°C (212°F) for 1 hour.

If Using As A Mold

Natural release characteristics initially. Use release agent for casting polyurethane, polyester, and epoxy resins.

Thickening and Thinning

THI-VEX™ for thickening; Silicone Thinner™ for thinning (do not exceed 10% by weight).

Mold Performance & Storage

Clean molds before storage. Store on a level surface in a cool, dry environment.
