Equinox™ 35 FAST silicone putty features a platinum catalyst. It is easy to mix by hand and can be applied to various surfaces.
It is mixed in equal amounts (1A:1B) by volume, with a working time of about 1 minute and a cure time of approximately 7 minutes at room temperature (23°C).
The cured rubber is strong, durable, and heat-resistant, making it suitable for casting low-temperature melt metal alloys.
It is food safe, making it suitable for culinary applications.
Uses include making fast mold impressions from almost any surface, for:
Use in a well-ventilated area. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and vinyl gloves.
N.B. use vinyl gloves only, as latex gloves will inhibit curing.
Store and use at room temperature (23°C). Warmer temperatures reduce working and cure time.
Storing at cooler temperatures will extend the shelf life.
Inhibition may occur with contaminants like latex, tin-cure silicone, sulfur clays, and certain wood surfaces. Test compatibility on a non-critical area.
Seal the object with a clear acrylic lacquer to prevent inhibition. Allow the sealer to dry before applying the rubber.
When in doubt, a small test application to determine suitability for your project is recommended.
When working with modeling clays that contain heavy amounts of sulfur, even a sealer will not suffice. Do a small scale test for compatibility before starting your project.
The use of a release agent is usually not necessary, but will help with the ease of demolding. Use Ease Release™ 200. Spray the object once, then brush lightly over the surface, spry once more lightly and let dry for 30 minutes.
Test on an identical surface if unsure.
Mix by hand, using vinyl gloves if desired. Combine equal amounts of Part A and Part B.
Knead to a uniform color, and apply quickly.
The putty begins to cure after 30 seconds and can be applied to most surfaces.
Allow to cure at room temperature before removing from the model. Heat can accelerate curing. Conduct a small test application to ensure suitability.
Putty molds may require a support shell, which can be made using Plasti-Paste II™ or Matrix™ NEO™ with chopped fiber.
Do not cure below 18°C.
Post-curing can enhance properties: after room-temperature curing, expose to 80°C for 2 hours and 100°C for 1 hour.
Cool to room temperature before use.
Silicone molds naturally release well initially. Over time, mold lubricity may decrease.
No release agent is needed for wax or gypsum.
Use Ease Release™ 200 for polyurethane, polyester, and epoxy resins to prevent mold degradation.
Mold life depends on it's use. Abrasive materials like concrete can erode detail, while non-abrasive materials like wax do not. Clean molds with soap solution and dry before storage. Assemble multi-part molds and store on a level surface in a cool, dry place.
