Equinox™ 40 SLOW silicone putty is a slower Equinox version with a 30-minute pot life and a 5-hour demold time.
It is a platinum-catalyzed silicone compound that can be mixed and applied by hand to various surfaces.
Known for low shrinkage, high tensile strength, durability, and resistance to high temperatures, it is suitable for casting low-temperature-melting metal alloys.
Equinox™ 40 SLOW is food safe, allowing for culinary applications.
Uses include making fast mold impressions from almost any surface
Use in a well-ventilated area. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and vinyl gloves.
N.B. strictly use vinyl gloves, as latex gloves will inhibit the cure.
Store and use at room temperature (23°C). Warmer temperatures reduce working and cure time and can shorten shelf life.
Inhibition may occur with contaminants like latex, tin-cure silicone, sulfur clays, and certain wood surfaces. Test compatibility on a non-critical area.
Seal the object with a clear acrylic lacquer to prevent inhibition. Allow the sealer to dry before applying the rubber.
When in doubt, a small test application to determine suitability for your project is recommended.
When working with modeling clays that contain heavy amounts of sulfur, even a sealer will not suffice. Do a small scale test for compatibility before starting your project.
A release agent can make demolding easier. Use Ease Release™ 200 for silicone rubber molds. Lightly brush the release agent over all surfaces, follow with a light mist, and let dry for 30 minutes.
Mix by hand using vinyl gloves. Dispense equal amounts of Part A and Part B. Knead parts together to a uniform color and apply quickly. You have about 30 minutes to mix and apply.
Allow to cure at room temperature before removing from the model.
Applying heat will speed up curing.
Conduct a small test application if performance is in question.
Putty molds may need a support shell made of Plasti-Paste II™ or Matrix™ NEO™ with chopped fiber.
Do not cure below 18°C.
Optional post-curing at 80°C for 2 hours and 100°C for 1 hour can enhance properties.
Cool to room temperature before use.
Silicone molds naturally release well initially. Over time, mold lubricity may decrease.
No release agent is needed for wax or gypsum.
Use Ease Release™ 200 for polyurethane, polyester, and epoxy resins to prevent mold degradation.
Mold life depends on it's use. Abrasive materials like concrete can erode detail, while non-abrasive materials like wax do not. Clean molds with soap solution and dry before storage. Assemble multi-part molds and store on a level surface in a cool, dry place.
