Description

The EZ-Spray Junior cartridge system offers an economical alternative to expensive spray equipment.

EZ-Spray™ Silicone 20 sprayable silicone cures quickly to produce soft rubber molds with high elongation and tear strength.

After achieving a suitable thickness the silicone cures in about 20 minutes to strong, durable silicone molds, suitable for production casting of various materials. Shrinkage is negligible

Features

  • Effective for making fast, cost-effective vacuum bags for composite parts production.
  • Newly sprayed or injected bags can be removed from the mold in minutes and used immediately with resin systems.
  • Offers significant time and labor savings compared to conventional vacuum bagging systems.

Technical Properties

  • Mix Ratio By Volume: 1A:1B
  • Working time: 3 minutes
  • Cure Time: 20 minutes
  • Shore Hardness: 20 A
  • Specific Gravity: 1.08 g/cc
  • Specific Volume: 0.93 cm³/g
  • Tensile Strength: 3.41 MPa
  • 100% Modulus: 324 kPa
  • Elongation @ Break: 470%
  • Die B Tear Strength: 17.5 kN/m

Use Cases

  • Making reusable vacuum bags for resin infusion, such as race car seats and fiberglass boat tools.
  • Creating large resin infusion vacuum bags for composite panels and motorsport carbon fiber wings.

Instructions

Preparing To Spray

  • Materials should be stored and used at room temperature (23°C / 73°F).
  • Warm temperatures will reduce the working time of this material.
  • Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves to minimize contamination risk.
  • Model surface should also be at room temperature.
  • A small test application is recommended to determine suitability for your project.

Cure Inhibition

  • Platinum silicones are susceptible to cure inhibition by contaminants such as sulfur and uncured epoxy resin.
  • If compatibility is a concern, apply a small amount of rubber onto a non-critical area of the pattern for testing.
  • To prevent inhibition, apply a “barrier coat” of clear acrylic lacquer onto the pattern and allow it to dry thoroughly.
  • If casting silicone into silicone, use Ease Release 200™ only.

Safety

  • Spraying should be done in a well-ventilated area.
  • Wear an independent air-supplied hood or NIOSH-approved breathing mask, vinyl gloves, and long sleeve garments.

Coverage Rates

  • One cartridge (1.7 kg) produces a 0.33 square meter bag at a thickness of 4.8 mm.
  • One 5-gallon unit (36.29 kg) covers a 7.05 square meter area at a thickness of 4.8 mm.
  • One 55-gallon drum unit (399.19 kg) covers a 77.55 square meter area at a thickness of 4.8 mm.

Applying The Rubber

  • Spray in layers: 3 to 4 very thin layers (2 mm per layer) to build a minimum final thickness of 6.4 mm.
  • Start at one end and spray a thin, uniform layer across the entire tool.
  • Let the material gel for 2 minutes before applying the next layer to prevent sagging.
  • Spray undercuts and recesses first, and have an extra pair of hands to brush rubber as it is applied.
  • Let the first coat dry for two minutes at room temperature or when it becomes “tacky” before adding the next coat.
  • Do not allow rubber to fully cure between layers to avoid delaminating.

Curing

  • Allow the rubber to cure for at least 20 minutes at room temperature (23°C / 73°F) before demolding.
  • Do not cure rubber where temperature is less than 18°C (65°F).
  • Post curing (applying heat – 60°C / 145°F for at least 1 hour) will increase physical properties and performance.

Using The Mold Or Bag

  • A release agent is not necessary, but using one prior to casting lengthens the production life of the rubber.
  • The type of release agent depends on the material being cast. Universal™ Mold Release is recommended for most applications.

Mold Performance & Storage

  • Fully cured molds or bags are tough, durable, and will perform if properly used and stored.
  • The physical life of the mold depends on usage (materials cast, frequency, etc.).
  • Clean molds with a soap solution and wipe fully dry before storing.
  • Store molds on a level surface in a cool, dry environment, and do not stack them or expose them to moisture or UV light.
