Description

This high-performance urethane mold rubber is designed for applications requiring increased hardness, abrasion resistance, and extended service life.

With a Shore A60 hardness, KX Flex™ 60 is firmer than mid-range elastomers, making it suitable for molds that need to maintain shape under heavy casting materials or during repeated production cycles.

The material uses a straightforward 1A:1B volume mix ratio, ensuring accurate measurement and consistent curing.

KX Flex™ 60 offers a working time of approximately 25 minutes at room temperature, allowing for thorough mixing, optional degassing, and careful pouring.

Typically, it cures in about 16 hours, achieving full mechanical strength, tear resistance, and dimensional stability.

Commonly used for molds intended for concrete, plaster, gypsum, and various resin systems, its higher hardness resists edge wear, distortion, and surface abrasion, enabling molds to remain usable over numerous casting cycles.

Despite its firmness, it retains enough flexibility for easy demolding without damaging the cast part.

KX Flex™ 60 urethane rubber accurately reproduces surface detail and maintains clean mold geometry over time.

It can be poured as a solid mold or thickened for brush-on applications and is compatible with standard mold release agents and pigments.

KX Flex™ 60 is a reliable choice for professional mold makers and fabricators seeking a durable, rigid, and reusable urethane rubber.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Store and use materials in a warm environment of 23°C.
  • Use products as soon as possible due to limited shelf life.
  • All liquid urethanes are moisture sensitive; use in low humidity (below 50% RH).
  • Use mixing containers with straight sides and a flat bottom.
  • Mixing sticks should be flat, stiff, and have defined edges for scraping.
  • Ensure mixing tools and containers are clean and made of metal, glass, or plastic.
  • Mix in a well-ventilated area.
  • Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves to minimize contamination risk.
  • Conduct a small test application if performance is in question.
Applying A Release Agent
  • If unsure about surface compatibility, perform a trial casting on a similar surface.
  • Ensure polyurethane, latex, or metal molds are dry and apply a suitable release agent.
  • Apply a liberal coat of release agent on all surfaces that will contact the rubber.
  • Brush the release agent with a soft brush for thorough coverage.
  • Follow with a light mist coating and let dry for 30 minutes.
Measuring & Mixing
  • Before Dispensing: Pre-mix Part B before each use.
  • Measuring: Use a 1 Part A to 1 Part B mix ratio by volume.
  • Dispense required amounts of Part A and Part B into a mixing container.
  • Hand Mixing: Mix thoroughly for at least 60 seconds, scraping sides and bottom.
  • Mechanical Mixing: Use a turbine mixer or equivalent for 30 seconds, followed by 30 seconds of hand mixing.
  • Be aware that material pot life is 2.5 minutes at 23°C; elevated temperatures reduce pot life.
Pouring, Curing & Performance
  • Pouring: Pour mixture in a single spot at the mold's lowest point. Avoid pouring directly over encapsulated objects.
  • Curing: Handling time can be as soon as 20 minutes. Low mass castings may take longer to cure.
  • Uniform mild heat can accelerate cure time. Ultimate properties are reached at room temperature in 7 days.
  • Post Curing Option: For faster full cure and maximum properties, post cure in a dedicated oven at 65°C for 4 hours.
  • Allow castings to cool to room temperature before handling.
  • Handling/Demold Time: Ensure casting has reached handling strength before demolding. Allow material to cure for 24 hours at room temperature before use.
  • Conduct a small test application if performance is in question.
