This water-white, translucent, tin-cured silicone rubber compound is known for its exceptional tear strength and working properties.
Mold Max™ 10T features a special catalyst for long library-life (mold longevity).
The silicone is mixed at a 100A:10B by weight ratio, and vacuum degassing is recommended to de-air.
The rubber cures overnight at room temperature. It can be thickened with a thickener for brush-on applications and effects.
Weigh Part A & B components using a gram scale.
Pre-mix Part B thoroughly. Dispense required amounts of parts A and B into a mixing container and mix for 3 minutes, scraping the sides and bottom.
Vacuum degassing is recommended to eliminate entrapped air.
Your vacuum pump must pull a minimum of 29 inches of mercury (1 Bar / 100 KPa).
Leave room for material expansion. Vacuum until material rises, breaks, and falls, then vacuum for 1 minute after material falls.
Pour the mixture in a single spot at the lowest point of the enclosure.
Let the rubber seek its level up and over the model.
The liquid rubber should level off at least 1.3 cm (1/2”) over the highest point of the model surface.
Allow the mold to cure overnight (at least 16 hrs) at room temperature (23°C) before demolding.
Post curing the mold an additional 4 hours at 65°C will eliminate residual moisture and alcohol. Allow mold to cool to room temperature before using. Do not cure rubber where temperature is less than 18°C.
Use in a properly ventilated area. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves. Use vinyl gloves only. Store and use material at room temperature (23°C). Storing at warmer temperatures reduces shelf life.
Rubber may be inhibited by sulfur-based clays. A small-scale test is recommended. Apply a small amount of rubber onto a non-critical area of the pattern. Inhibition has occurred if the rubber is gummy or uncured.
To prevent inhibition, apply a “barrier coat” of clear acrylic lacquer.
A release agent will make demolding easier. Ease Release™ 200 is a proven release agent.
THI-VEX™ is used for thickening for vertical surface application. Different viscosities can be attained by varying the amount of THI-VEX™.
Apply a thin coat of rubber. Wait for rubber to become “tacky” before applying the next coat. Final mold thickness should be at least 1 cm (3/8”). Allow the rubber to cure overnight before applying the support shell.
Accel-T™ Silicone Rubber Accelerator can be used to accelerate the cure time. Note: working time is reduced in proportion to the amount of Accel-T™ added. Using these accelerators will result in a shorter library life of the mold.
Silicone Thinner™ lowers the mixed viscosity of silicone rubber products. It offers a lower mixed viscosity, better flow over intricate detail, and increased pot life. However, ultimate tear and tensile are reduced. It is not recommended to exceed 10% by weight of the total system (A+B).
The physical life of the mold depends on usage. Casting abrasive materials can erode mold detail. Before storing, clean the mold with a soap solution and dry fully. Store molds on a level surface in a cool, dry environment.
