Description
This semi-rigid urethane plastic is designed for both rotational and solid casting applications.
Smooth-Cast™ 57D features a gradual cure profile, suitable for machine or hand rotational casting.
Rotational Casting
Pour the resin into a suitable rubber mold and rotate it to coat the mold cavity evenly. Once the desired wall thickness is achieved, the casting cures to a semi-rigid, impact-resistant form.

The material can be easily colored with SO-Strong™, UVO™, or Ignite™ colorants and painted with acrylic paints or UreCoat™ for thick, durable finishes.
Instructions
Preparation:
- Store and use materials in a warm environment at 23°C.
- Use promptly due to limited shelf life.
- Mix in a well-ventilated area; wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves.
- Ensure mixing tools and containers are clean and made of metal, glass, or plastic.
- Conduct a small test application to ensure suitability.
Applying a Release Agent:
- Use a mold-specific release agent like Mann’s Ease Release™ 200.
- Apply a liberal coat on all surfaces in contact with the plastic.
- Brush with a soft brush, then apply a light mist coating.
- Let the release agent dry for 30 minutes.
- Smooth-On silicone rubber molds typically do not require a release agent unless casting silicone into the mold.
Mixing:
- Pre-mix PART-A and PART-B thoroughly before beginning.
- Combine equal volumes of Parts A and B in a mixing container.
- Stir for at least 30 seconds, scraping the sides and bottom of the container.
Curing:
- Ensure room-size ventilation or proximity to a forced air vent.
- Do not inhale fumes; they dissipate quickly with adequate ventilation.
- Let castings cool to room temperature before handling.
- Demold time varies with mass and mold configuration.
- Backfill rotational or hollow castings with rigid foam for reinforcement if exposed to temperatures above 30°C.
Performance:
- Cured castings are semi-rigid, impact-resistant, and resist moisture, mild heat, and solvents.
- They can be primed, painted, or bonded to other surfaces with Urebond or similar adhesives.
- Unpainted castings may discolor with UV exposure.
- Conduct a small test application to ensure suitability for your project.
