Description

This high-quality platinum-cure silicone rubber is designed for applications requiring durability, tear strength, and precise reproduction of fine details. It features a Shore 45A hardness, creating firm molds that retain their shape through repeated casting cycles with resins, waxes, foams, and low-melt alloys.

Its moderate viscosity ensures good flow for capturing fine textures, suitable for controlled pouring or brush-on techniques. The silicone cures with minimal shrinkage, providing dimensionally accurate molds for industrial components, architectural reproductions, special effects, sculptures, and product development.

Once cured, it is resistant to heat, chemicals, and deformation, performing well under mechanical or environmental stress. It is also food-safe when fully cured, making it ideal for chocolate, specialty baking, and culinary molding. This versatile silicone can be modified with pigments, thickeners, and additives, offering a robust option for professionals needing reliable, long-lasting molds across various casting projects.

Instructions

Safety

  • Use in a well-ventilated area.
  • Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves. Use vinyl gloves only; latex gloves inhibit curing.
  • Store and use at 23°C. Higher temperatures reduce working and curing time and shelf life.

Cure Inhibition

  • Contaminants like latex, tin-cure silicone, sulfur clays, and certain woods can inhibit curing. Test compatibility on a small area first.
  • Apply a clear acrylic lacquer to the model surface to prevent inhibition. Ensure it dries thoroughly before applying rubber.
  • Even with a sealer, avoid using platinum silicones with sulfur-heavy clays. Conduct a small-scale test for compatibility.

Applying a Release Agent

  • Use a release agent like Ease Release® 200 for easier demolding. Brush lightly over all surfaces, followed by a mist coating. Let dry for 30 minutes.
  • Test the sealer/release agent combination on a similar surface if unsure.

Measuring & Mixing

  1. Pre-mix Part B to re-disperse pigments.
  2. Use a gram scale to measure parts A and B. Mix for 3 minutes, scraping sides and bottom.
  3. Vacuum degas for 2-3 minutes at 0.98 bar.
  4. Pour in a single spot at the lowest point, allowing the rubber to flow over the model. Ensure it levels at least 1.3 cm above the highest point.

Curing / Post Curing

  • Cure at 23°C before demolding. Do not cure below 18°C.
  • Optional: Post-cure at 80°C for 2 hours and 100°C for 1 hour to enhance properties. Cool to room temperature before use.

Using the Mold

  • Silicone molds naturally release casts initially. Over time, lubricity may decrease, requiring a release agent like Ease Release® 200 for casting polyurethane, polyester, and epoxy resins.

Thickening & Thinning

  • Use THI-VEX® to thicken for brush-on applications. Adjust viscosity by varying THI-VEX® amounts.
  • Silicone Thinner® reduces viscosity for easier pouring but may lower tear and tensile strength. Do not exceed 10% by weight.

Mold Performance & Storage

  • Mold life depends on use. Clean with soap solution and dry before storage.
  • Store assembled molds on a level surface in a cool, dry place.
