This high-performance platinum cure liquid silicone compound is used for creating skin effects, movie special effects, production molds, medical prosthetics, and cushioning applications. It is also suitable for industrial applications, with a service temperature range of -54°C to 232°C (-65°F to 450°F).
Use in a well-ventilated area. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves. Use vinyl gloves only, as latex gloves inhibit curing.
Store and use at room temperature (23°C/73°F). Warmer temperatures reduce working and cure time, and can shorten shelf life. Use products promptly.
Silicone rubber may be inhibited by contaminants on the pattern. Test on a small area if compatibility is a concern. If rubber is gummy or uncured, inhibition has occurred. Apply clear acrylic lacquer to prevent inhibition, allowing it to dry thoroughly before applying rubber.
Because no two applications are quite the same, a small test application to determine suitability for your project is recommended if performance of this material is in question.
Note: Even with a sealer, platinum silicones will not work with modeling clays containing heavy amounts of sulfur. Do a small scale test for compatibility before using on your project.
Release agent is not usually necessary but can ease demolding. Use Ease Release™ 200, applying with a soft brush and a light mist. Let dry for 30 minutes.
Pre-mix Part B thoroughly. Mix Parts A and B (1A:1B by volume or weight) for 3 minutes, scraping sides and bottom of the container. Vacuum degassing is recommended to remove air bubbles. Vacuum pump should pull at least 29 inches of mercury (1 Bar / 100 KPa). Allow material to rise, break, and fall, then vacuum for 1 minute after falling.
Cure at room temperature (23°C/73°F) before demolding. Do not cure below 18°C (65°F). Optional post curing: expose to 80°C (176°F) for 2 hours and 100°C (212°F) for 1 hour. Cool to room temperature before use.
Silicone molds naturally release when first cast. Mold lubricity may deplete over time, causing parts to stick. No release agent is needed for wax or gypsum. Use Ease Release™ 200 for polyurethane, polyester, and epoxy resins to prevent mold degradation.
THI-VEX™ thickens silicones for vertical applications. Adjust viscosity by varying THI-VEX™ amount.
Silicone Thinner™ lowers viscosity for easier pouring and degassing. Note: tear and tensile strength decrease with more thinner. Do not exceed 10% by weight of total system (A+B).
Mold life depends on use. Abrasive materials like concrete erode detail, while non-abrasive materials like wax do not. Clean molds with soap solution and dry before storing. Assemble multi-part molds and store on a level surface in a cool, dry place.
