This high-performance platinum-cure liquid silicone compound is used for skin effects, movie special effects, production molds, medical prosthetics, and cushioning applications. It operates within a temperature range of -54°C to 232°C.
Use in a well-ventilated area. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves. Use vinyl gloves only; latex gloves will inhibit the cure. Store and use material at room temperature (23°C). Warmer temperatures reduce working and cure time, and shelf life.
Silicone rubber may be inhibited by certain contaminants, resulting in tackiness or lack of cure. Test compatibility on a non-critical area. Apply a clear acrylic lacquer to the model surface to prevent inhibition. Allow sealer to dry thoroughly before applying rubber.
Because no two applications are quite the same, a small test application to determine suitability for your project is recommended if performance of this material is in question.
Note: Even with a sealer, platinum silicones will not work with modeling clays containing heavy amounts of sulfur. Do a small scale test for compatibility before using on your project.
A release agent is not usually necessary but will ease demolding. Use Ease Release™ 200. Lightly brush the release agent over all surfaces, follow with a light mist coating, and let dry for 30 minutes. Test effectiveness on an identical surface.
Pre-mix Part B thoroughly. Mix Parts A and B (1A:1B by volume or weight) for 3 minutes, scraping sides and bottom. Vacuum degassing is recommended to eliminate air. Use a vacuum pump pulling a minimum of 29 inches of mercury. Vacuum until material rises, breaks, and falls, then vacuum for 1 minute more.
Allow rubber to cure at room temperature (23°C) before demolding. Do not cure below 18°C. Optional: Post cure at 80°C for 2 hours and 100°C for one hour. Allow mold to cool before use.
Silicone rubber molds have natural release characteristics. No release agent is needed for wax or gypsum. Use Ease Release™ 200 for polyurethane, polyester, and epoxy resins to prevent mold degradation.
THI-VEX™ thickens silicones for vertical applications. Silicone Thinner™ lowers viscosity for easier pouring and vacuum degassing, but reduces tear and tensile strength. Do not exceed 10% by weight of total system.
Mold life depends on use. Clean molds with soap solution and dry before storing. Store on a level surface in a cool, dry environment.
