Description

Soma Foama™ 25 is a soft, two-component platinum-silicone flexible foam that is easy to use and expands 2-3 times its original volume.

Soma Foama™ 25 develops a uniform cell structure with a density of 400 kg/m³.

The foam is heat-resistant up to 176°C, water-resistant, UV-resistant, and resists oxidation and ozone degradation.

Vibrant colors can be achieved by adding  Silc Pig™ silicone pigments.

Instructions

Storage and Use

Store and use at room temperature (23°C). Soma Foama™ 15 has a limited shelf life and should be used as soon as possible. Ensure good room ventilation. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and vinyl gloves to minimize contamination risk.
N.B. latex gloves will inhibit the cure of the rubber.

Cure Inhibition

Inhibition may occur with contaminants like latex, tin-cure silicone, sulfur clays, and certain wood surfaces. Test compatibility on a non-critical area

Seal the object with a clear acrylic lacquer to prevent inhibition. Allow the sealer to dry before applying the rubber.

When in doubt, a small test application to determine suitability for your project is recommended.

When working with modeling clays that contain heavy amounts of sulfur, even a sealer will not suffice. Do a small scale test for compatibility before starting your project.

Applying A Release Agent

The foam may stick to some surfaces, which will necessitate the use of a release agent for demolding.

When casting into or over other platinum silicones, apply Ease Release™ 200 before applying the foam.

Lightly brush the release agent with a soft brush over all surfaces and let it dry for 15 minutes.

Mixing

Mix by hand or using a drill with a mixer attachment.

After dispensing Parts A and B into a mixing container, mix thoroughly for 30 seconds.

Stir quickly and deliberately, scraping the sides and bottom of the container. Avoid splashing material out.

Foam cures quickly; do not delay between mixing and pouring.

Elevated temperatures reduce pot life and cure time.

Warning

A small amount of hydrogen gas is released during the A:B reaction.

Use with adequate ventilation and avoid breathing fumes.

Do not smoke or have ignition sources nearby during mixing and pouring.

Pouring

For best results, pour the mixture in a single spot at the lowest point of the mold and let it level itself.

Handling Strength

Handling strength is achieved in 20 minutes with full cure in 1 hour at room temperature.

Foam color will darken over time. Adding Silc-Pig™ silicone pigments helps stabilize the color of cured foam.

Best adhesion to other platinum silicones is achieved when poured against newly cured platinum silicone rubber.

Results May Vary

This material is subject to environmental variables.

A small test is recommended to determine performance for your application.

Improve Surface Finish and Minimize Voids With Back Pressure

Use a board to cover the mold opening.

Drill three 2 cm (¾”) holes in the board, spaced a few cm apart. Ensure that the holes are over the mold cavity.

Apply Ease Release™ 200 to both sides of the board and into the holes.

Mix and pour foam into the mold cavity, place the board over the opening, and hold it firmly.

Foam will rise through the holes. After it stops growing, release the board.

Do not demold for at least 20 minutes.

Demold

After 20 minutes, cut excess material from holes. Gently remove the board and casting.
