Description

This platinum-catalyzed silicone rubber is designed for special effects and display applications. It consists of two liquids that are mixed and cured to form a solid, clear rubber. The material can be broken into pieces resembling glass, ice, or diamonds. Adding Silc-Pig™ pigments allows for vibrant colors.

Instructions

Measuring & Mixing

Store and use materials in a warm environment (23°C/73°F). Use clean, dry plastic containers and stirring sticks. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and vinyl gloves. Dispense equal parts by weight or volume into a mixing container. Mix thoroughly for at least three minutes, scraping the sides and bottom. Avoid whipping to prevent air bubbles. Vacuum degassing can eliminate bubbles if needed.

Pouring & Curing

Pour mixture into a plastic container or mold. Cure inhibition may occur with some surfaces. Use a release agent like Ease Release™ 200 for silicone molds. Cure overnight at room temperature (23°C/73°F). Do not cure below 18°C (65°F). Apply mild heat (60°C/150°F) to speed up curing.

Inhibition & Performance

Test compatibility with surfaces to avoid cure inhibition. Sulfur-based clays and latex rubber may cause inhibition. Apply a clear acrylic lacquer as a barrier coat if needed. The material may stick to some surfaces; use Ease Release™ 200 to facilitate release. After curing, the material can be removed and used as needed. Conduct a small test application to ensure suitability for your project.

Because no two applications are quite the same, a small test application to determine suitability for your project is recommended if performance of this material is in question.

Note: Even with a sealer, platinum silicones will not work with modeling clays containing heavy amounts of sulfur. Do a small scale test for compatibility before using on your project.
