Description

This extremely soft, platinum silicone rubber gel is designed for applications requiring a very soft material, such as makeup appliances, cushioning, and gaskets. It is certified skin safe.

Features

  • Shore hardness of 000-35, below the Shore 00 hardness scale
  • Suitable for filling encapsulated silicone makeup appliances and prosthetics
  • Infinite color effects achievable with Silc Pig™ silicone pigments
  • Very tacky when cured; recommended to be encapsulated with a non-tacky platinum silicone like Dragon Skin™ FX Pro
  • Mixed 1A:1B by weight or volume
  • Cures at room temperature (23°C) with negligible shrinkage

Instructions

Materials should be stored and used at room temperature (23°C). These products have a limited shelf life and should be used promptly. Rubber may be inhibited by sulfur-based clays, resulting in tackiness or lack of cure. If compatibility is a concern, conduct a small-scale test by applying a small amount of rubber onto a non-critical area. Inhibition is indicated if the rubber is gummy or uncured after the recommended cure time.

Using for Silicone Prosthetic Makeup Appliances

This gel can be used as a filler for creating silicone prosthetic appliances. It should be encapsulated, for example, with Dragon Skin™ FX-Pro, which can be stippled onto a mold surface to create a membrane. The gel can then be poured or injected into the mold to create a soft gel prosthetic encapsulated with strong, non-tacky silicone.

Applying a Release Agent

A release agent can make demolding easier when casting into most surfaces. Ease Release™ 200 is a proven release agent for releasing silicone from silicone or other surfaces. Conduct a small test application to determine suitability for your project.

Measuring & Mixing

Pre-mix Part B thoroughly. After dispensing required amounts of Parts A and B into a mixing container (1A:1B by volume or weight), mix thoroughly, scraping the sides and bottom of the container several times. For best results, ‘double mix’ by pouring the mixture into a new container and continue mixing until thoroughly blended.

Pouring

Pour the mixture in a single spot at the lowest point of the containment field or mold. Allow the rubber to seek its own level to minimize entrapped air.

Curing

Allow rubber to cure for 2 hours at room temperature (23°C / 73°F) before demolding. Time to demold can be reduced with mild heat. Do not cure rubber where temperature is less than 18°C (65°F).

Cure Inhibition

Addition-cure silicone rubber may be inhibited by certain contaminants in or on the pattern to be molded resulting in tackiness at the pattern interface or a total lack of cure throughout the mold. Latex, tin-cure silicone, sulfur clays, certain wood surfaces, newly cast polyester, epoxy, tin cure silicone rubber or urethane rubber may cause inhibition. If compatibility between the rubber and the surface is a concern, a small-scale test is recommended. Apply a small amount of rubber onto a non-critical area of the pattern. Inhibition has occurred if the rubber is gummy or uncured after the recommended cure time has passed.

To prevent inhibition, one or more coatings of a clear acrylic lacquer applied to the model surface is usually effective. Allow any sealer to thoroughly dry before applying rubber.

Because no two applications are quite the same, a small test application to determine suitability for your project is recommended if performance of this material is in question.

Note: Even with a sealer, platinum silicones will not work with modeling clays containing heavy amounts of sulfur. Do a small scale test for compatibility before using on your project.
