Description

This tin-cured silicone mold rubber compound is known for its exceptional working properties and long library life, thanks to an exclusive catalyst. It can be pigmented with silicone colorants. The pot life for the pourable silicones is 45 minutes, and they cure overnight at room temperature. Vacuum degassing is recommended to remove entrapped air.

Features

  • Reproduces the finest detail
  • Suitable for industrial and art-related applications, including making molds for prototypes, furniture, sculpture, and architectural elements
  • Can cast materials such as wax, gypsum, low melt alloys/metals, and urethane, epoxy, or polyester resins without a release agent

Instructions

Safety

Use in a properly ventilated area. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves to minimize contamination risk. Use vinyl gloves only, as latex gloves will inhibit the cure of the rubber.

Storage

Store and use material at room temperature (23°C/73°F). Storing material at warmer temperatures will reduce the usable shelf life. Use products as soon as possible due to limited shelf life.

Sealer / Release Agent

The rubber may be inhibited by sulfur-based clays. Apply a barrier coat of clear acrylic lacquer if compatibility is a concern. A proven release agent for silicone rubber molds is recommended.

Measuring & Mixing

Pre-mix Part B thoroughly. Use a gram scale to dispense parts A and B into a mixing container and mix for 3 minutes. Scrape the sides and bottom of the container several times. Vacuum degassing is recommended to eliminate entrapped air.

Pouring / Curing / Post Curing

Pour mixture in a single spot at the lowest point of the containment field. Allow the mold to cure overnight (at least 16 hrs) at room temperature before demolding. Post curing for 4 hours at 65°C (150°F) will eliminate residual moisture and alcohol.

Accelerating

An accelerator will reduce cure time. Note that working time is reduced in proportion to the amount of accelerator added.

Thinning

Silicone Thinner™ can lower the mixed viscosity and increase pot life. Do not exceed 10% by weight of the total system (A+B).

Mold Performance & Storage

The physical life of the mold depends on usage. Clean molds with a soap solution and dry before storing. Store molds on a level surface in a cool, dry environment.
