Description

This soft, fast-curing silicone is mixed in a 1:1 ratio by weight or volume.

Ecoflex™ 00-33AF has a working time of about 2.5 minutes and cures in approximately 5 minutes at room temperature with minimal shrinkage.

The low viscosity allows for easy mixing and pouring, and it cures without a tacky surface.

Ecoflex™ 00-33AF is very soft, strong, and stretchy, capable of stretching many times its original size.

This material is off-white translucent and can be pigmented with Silc Pig™ silicone color pigments.

Features

  • Certified skin safe by an independent laboratory.
  • Suitable for life casting applications, making rubber molds for casting wax, resins, etc.
  • Can be used for skin-safe applications like special effects, cosplay, and cushioning for orthopedic devices.
  • Ideal for making fast-cure rubber molds with high elongation for various materials.

Instructions

Safety

Use in a well-ventilated area. Wear safety glasses, long sleeves, and rubber gloves. Use vinyl gloves only, as latex gloves will inhibit curing.

Storage

Store and use at room temperature (23°C/73°F). Warmer temperatures will reduce working and cure time, and may shorten shelf life.

Cure Inhibition

Contaminants like latex, tin-cure silicone, sulfur clays, and certain wood surfaces may inhibit curing. Test compatibility on a small area first. Apply a clear acrylic lacquer to the model surface to prevent inhibition, ensuring it dries thoroughly before applying the rubber.

Because no two applications are quite the same, a small test application to determine suitability for your project is recommended if performance of this material is in question.

Note: Even with a sealer, platinum silicones will not work with modeling clays containing heavy amounts of sulfur. Do a small scale test for compatibility before using on your project.

Applying A Release Agent

While not usually necessary, a release agent can ease demolding. Use Ease Release™ 200, brushing it lightly over all surfaces, followed by a light mist. Allow to dry for 30 minutes.

If Applying To The Skin

Use Body Double™ Release Cream to aid in releasing the mold rubber from skin surfaces. Wash and dry the skin thoroughly before application. Apply the cream liberally, especially over body hair, to prevent it from sticking to the rubber.

Measuring & Mixing

Pre-mix Part B thoroughly. Mix Parts A and B in a 1:1 ratio by volume or weight for 90 seconds, ensuring to scrape the sides and bottom of the container. Do not delay between mixing and pouring.

Pouring

Pour the mixture at the lowest point of the containment field. Allow the rubber to flow over the model, ensuring it levels off at least 1.3 cm (1/2 inch) over the highest point.

Curing / Post Curing

Allow to cure at room temperature (23°C/73°F) before demolding. For post-curing, expose to 80°C (176°F) for 2 hours and 100°C (212°F) for one hour. Allow to cool before use. Note: Rubber will yellow over time, and heating accelerates this process.

Thinning

Silicone Thinner™ can reduce viscosity for easier pouring, but may reduce tear and tensile strength. Do not exceed 10% by weight of the total system.

Thickening

THI-VEX™ can thicken the silicone for vertical applications. Adjust viscosity by varying the amount used.
